The process of knitting has three basic tasks: (1) the active (unsecured) stitches must be held so they don't drop; (2) these stitches must be released sometime after they are secured; and (3) new bights of yarn must be passed through the fabric, usually through active stitches, thus securing them. Here's how I care for the things I have been knitting.
Hand-knitting has gone into and out of fashion many times in the last two centuries, and at the turn of the 21st century it is enjoying a revival. You can also choose between circular needles and straight needles. First the skill level; it can be easy, medium, hard or beginner, intermediate or advance, each pattern has specific skill level, you can start with beginner and then go for complex advanced patterns.
When you learn these simple stitches and stitch patterns, you can knit virtually any pattern that you wish. Although knitting may be done with ribbons, metal wire and more exotic filaments, most yarns are made by spinning fibers. First find a pattern with the some basic knitting instructions; a small flat item really is best.
Not only will this provide a nice social outlet, but your new knitting friends may also be able to help you locate and use new knitting patterns and new ideas for knitting projects. To do a yarn-over after a knit stitch, just bring your yarn across your work from the back to the front.
