Knitting consists of loops called stitches pulled through each other. Sock-knitting machines are used to make socks.
Knitting may be hand made or machine made. In securing the previous stitch in a wale, the next stitch can pass through the previous loop either from below or above. There is a cylinder with slots for the needles in the machine and the needles have latches.
If the fibers are first aligned by combing them, the yarn is smoother and called a worsted; by contrast, if the fibers are carded but not combed, the yarn is fuzzier and called woolen-spun. Repeating it out loud confers some of the meditative experience of knitting. Making a baby blanket yourself or having someone knit one for you is the best way to show your love.
