For many people one of the most enjoyable aspects of the craft is browsing through the many yarns available in a knitting shop. The process of knitting has three basic tasks: (1) the active (unsecured) stitches must be held so they don't drop; (2) these stitches must be released sometime after they are secured; and (3) new bights of yarn must be passed through the fabric, usually through active stitches, thus securing them.
The third needle type consists of circular needles, which are long, flexible double-pointed needles. Now count the stitches, if they are all there, turn the right knitting needle around and put it in the left hand. The process of knitting has three basic tasks, the active stitches must be held so they don't drop, these stitches must be released sometime after they are secured and new bights of yarn must be passed through the fabric, usually through active stitches, thus securing them.
For those of us who knit, there is almost nothing more relaxing than watching a row of neat, organized stitches line up on your knitting needles. This is my version of instructions for the two basic knitting stitches but I have found that it is hard to use a few written instructions. The two extra stitches add balance to the pattern.
These few basic knitting instructions are the foundation of any project you will ever knit. You will have only one new stitch from two.
