Sock-knitting machines are used to make socks. I wanted to set out some basic knitting instructions as a refresher so here it is.

The pattern is knit first stitch, purl next stitch and repeat until the row is knit. Since a typical piece of knitted fabric may have hundreds of wales, warp knitting is typically done by machine, whereas weft knitting is done by both hand and machine. Sometimes, the yarns being plied are fed at different rates, so that one yarn loops around the other, as in boucl .

Knitting is the delicate balance of holding needles and continuously feeding yarn until a pattern emerges. Knitting is done by looping those threads, into each other by stitching. It is not done like knitting on needles, it is done on your fingers.
