cotton/lycra knit fabrics

On the left are a pair of scissors, a yarn needle, green and blue stitch markers, and two orange point protectors. Depending on how the increase is done, there is often a hole in the fabric at the point of the increase. This many take a few weeks depending on how large the blanket is supposed to be.

It can be a humbling experience to the perfectionist. If the fibers are first aligned by combing them, the yarn is smoother and called a worsted; by contrast, if the fibers are carded but not combed, the yarn is fuzzier and called woolen-spun. On the wrong side, the ends of the loops are visible, both the tops and bottoms, creating a much more bumpy texture sometimes called reverse stockinette.

Be sure to try using other available resources, such as local craft and hobby stores. You'll be amazed at how much faster the second, third, and fourth version of the same pattern can be.
